Community – Our Places of Belonging

We celebrate the special places where Métis people gather, live, and visit. Visiting, trading, and sharing food are time-honoured traditions of the Métis. As a result of colonization, traditional Métis land use has been dramatically impacted and our sense of community belonging deeply disrupted. Nevertheless, Métis have maintained a connection to our communities, road allowances and sacred places, like the site of the Battle of Batoche. Many Metis are creating new gathering spaces to belong to in urban cities across Canada.
