Lesson Plans
The following lesson plans were designed to complement annual commemorative days of significance to Métis people. Lesson plans are in constant production, including the incorporation of additional grades and commemorative days. Please continue to check for updates.
It is important to note that culturally responsive teaching about Métis people, culture, and history is an ongoing and natural part of a reconciliatory curriculum. It should be integrated throughout the year rather than being limited to specific days of significance.

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE
National Day for Truth & Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day: September 30th
September 30 is recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day), a time to honour Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of residential schools. In recognition of this day, we have created a collection of lesson plans and acivities to support respectful, age-appropriate learning, reflection, and reconciliation.

Equipped with instructions for creating your own tribute activity, as well as supplemental materials, this package is an excellent way to mark this day with your students. Note that for the story activity, read-aloud videos can be found on YouTube.
